Okay, maybe they’re not all grumpy. But assume they are. It’s a useful mindset when crafting outreach because it forces you to get to the point before they tune out.
Most prospects aren’t sitting at their desks eagerly awaiting an email from a company they don’t know. They’re busy. They’re probably hovering over the delete button. Your job? Stop them from pressing it.
Here’s What Not to Do:
🚫 Don’t write a novel.
🚫 Don’t open with small talk ("Hope you had a great weekend!" - they don’t care).
🚫 Don’t bury your best point three paragraphs deep.
What Works Instead?
🔹 Hit them with something impactful. “We just helped CLIENT X increase their sell-through by 200%.” That’s an opener they’ll actually read.
🔹 Make it about them. After you show off quickly, shift focus: “I think we could do something similar for you.”
🔹 Keep it short. If they can read your entire email before their coffee cools, you’ve already beaten most of their inbox.
People don’t care about you - yet. But they do care about results. If you can make them see the potential impact you bring before they even realise they’re paying attention, you’ve won half the battle.
